What is Protected Cancellation?

How does it work? 
  • It allows you to cancel and request a refund for your ticket.
  • It will only be available in sizes XS, S, M, and XL, and when the purchase anticipation is, at least, 10 days before for domestic flights and 17 days for international flights
  • Cancellation applies to all passengers linked to the booking.​​
  • The cancellation deadline is 7 days before your domestic flight and 14 days for international flights.
  • If you have already purchased this service, and you will not be able to travel. Request your cancellation here using the refund option “You purchased Protected Cancellation”.
  • You will receive the money for your cancellation within 7 to 10 business days, after requesting the refund, in an Avianca UATP Card. Reschedule your trip by purchasing a new ticket at avianca.com using the balance.
  • The value of the ticket and taxes are refunded, including non-refundable taxes. The additional services purchased separately or that are not included in your fare are non-refundable.

  • What happens when I make a voluntary change?

    As long as you have not started your trip, you can use the service. Remember that cancellations can only be requested 7 days before the flight for domestic destinations and 14 days for international destinations.

  • What do I get refunded?

    The value of the ticket and taxes are refunded, including non-refundable taxes. The additional services purchased separately or that are not included in your fare are non-refundable.

  • In whose name is the Avianca UATP card issued?

    It is issued for the customer, who appears as the owner of the ticket.

  • If you purchased Protected Cancellation and subsequently did an upgrade to Business Class, but do not get to travel, what happens to the refund?

    If you paid for an upgrade to Business Class, you will be refunded only if the cancellation is requested within the stipulated times and while the trip has not begun.
