Starting January 15, 2023, the unaccompanied minor service (recommended), which provides full assistance and support for minors traveling alone on domestic and international routes, will be discontinued on all our routes.
If you purchased the service before October 1, 2022, regardless of the date of travel, the service will be provided according to the travel dates, route and conditions originally purchased.
Will minors no longer be able to travel alone on Avianca routes?
With the changes we are implementing, minors between 12 and 17 years of age will be able to travel alone as long as they meet the requirements of local or international authorities, as appropriate. It is important to remember that the decision for your underage family member to travel alone is the responsibility of the parents and/or legal guardians.
My child/children [ages 5-11] needs to travel to [destination] after January 15, 2023. I cannot accompany him/her, what alternatives do you have now that you no longer have that service?
According to the airline's new policies, minors up to age 11 must travel with an accompanying adult. We are always looking to ensure that the little ones travel safely.
I purchased the unaccompanied minor service before October 1 to fly in the future [on a connecting/direct/domestic route] what will happen to my [child/nephew...] if you no longer have the service?

If you purchased service after October 1, the service will only provide until January 15, 2023.
Can my child/children travel [on a connecting/direct or domestic route] with a person I trust?
That decision is yours to make as the legal guardian of your child. If so, both will travel in compliance with the airline's service contract.
I have purchased the unaccompanied minor service [for an international connecting/point-to-point/domestic route] and want to change the date of my child's itinerary. With this change, will you maintain the service on the new date on my route [international connecting/point-to-point or domestic]?
Yes, as long as the service [international with connection/point-to-point or domestic] service was purchased prior to October 1, 2022 and there is no change in the route.
My child will travel with [another airline/codeshare/interline] and then connect with Avianca, will you give me the service, even if you no longer have it?
The unaccompanied minor service was not, and is not available for passengers who have tickets for [codeshare/interline] routes with other airlines with other airlines that then connect to an Avianca flight.
